Connecticut Compromise
Connecticut Compromise
The
Connecticut compromise which is also known as the great compromise of 1787 or
Sherman’s compromise and an agreement between the large and small states of
America it was the constitutional convention of 1787 that partly defined the
legislative structure and the representation that each state would have under
the constitution of united states of America It retained the bicameral
legislature as proposed by James Madison along with proportional representation
in the lower house, but required the upper house to be weighted equally between
the states.
Connecticut compromise is where they agreed to have two legislative houses one
based on population (the House of Representatives) and one house with two votes
per state (the senate).
When it appeared that the Constitutional Convention
would break up the delegates began to make compromises on important issues. The
first thing that they resolved was the problem of State Representation.
The smaller states were in favor of the New Jersey
plan which was proposed by William Patterson this plan in many ways resembles
the current form of government in the United States.
While Edmund Randolph put forward a plan favored by
the larger states it was called the Virginia plan.
The compromise was submitted to the convention so
that the deadlock could be broken formed due to the New Jersey plan and
Virginia plan.
The convention decided, after months of debate, that
the legislature will be bicameral, meaning there will be two houses, and one
house will have equal representation, while the other is based on population of
the state. After further argument, the delegates agreed to what really a great
compromise is also known as The Connecticut Compromise. It is known as The
Connecticut Compromise because Roger Sherman who has a large part in this
compromise is from Connecticut.
I HOPE THE PAKISTANI PEOPLE STATESMEN POLITICIANS AND ALL CAN LEARN SOMETHING FROM THIS
